While there’s a fine line between socially-acceptable and bizarre beauty, bright make-up is daunting to wear either way. We took cues from the spring/summer 2017 runway for pop-coloured make-up that’ll look as good off the runway, as it did on it.
It’s a concept very similar to photography’s rule of thirds—you keep your focal point in one third of your frame and the rest of it automatically gets out of focus for a powerful shot. When it comes to make-up, whether you’re experimenting with a pink eyeshadow, an emerald green one or yellow lipstick for an ombre lip (like at Jason Wu), it’s all about striking a balance between the rest of your make-up and your bright pick for the day. The look at Prama works with metallic on the eyelids and lips, but keeps the latter muted, drawing attention instantly towards the eyes. The blue eyelashes at Nishka Lulla are the best example of keeping just one section of your face in focus—without them, the rest of the look is as basic as it gets. If all you want is some classic blue shadow, Victoria Beckham’s winged eyeshadow is ideal. Flip through the gallery for our favourite runway looks.
